What is the purpose of a literature
review? The best way to try and explain the purpose of a literature review is by
using an illustration; it’s like piling up all the books that
you have read before and all the books you will read around the subject that
your literature is based on and then standing on that pile of books in order
to be able to look out and look across further than what you could have seen
originally. In other words you’re standing on the shoulders of those who
have gone before, you’re standing on all the knowledge that you’ve created and
you’re looking beyond that because of the knowledge that you’ve gathered.
That’s the literature review, it gives you a better perspective of the subject
you are about to start to research
