The idea for this engine was quite spontaneous. I was a little bored with building ‘ori spec’ Mk1 Golfs so I decided to do something extraordinary. To build a car that embodies all my fantasies. This might sound trivial, but I was into cars since I was a child. I didn’t inherit that passion from anyone, I was always the ‘odd one’ amongst family of zootechnicians. I set myself a goal that connected my two passions: cars and drawing. I wanted to become a car designer. I even started studying in this field. But in the meanwhile I bought myself a Mk1 Golf and I met people who restore classic cars. Then I realised that instead of designing a door handle for a new Dacia model, I would rather get my hands dirty working with classics. I started working with car body work and I opened my own workshop that specializes in restoring classics – Flygarage. There was a moment in my life when that I bought myself a Volkswagen, another one and then another one… So I finally decided that I want to have a nice Caddy with a diesel engine. A car that will not only go to the car meets, but also help me at work. I was dreaming of one colour, so when a car with this paint was for sale, I bought it. Unfortunately the vehicle was in such a bad shape, that while towing it, its’ front got torn into two parts. When I decided to put the V8 into the car, my idea was not to leave too much from a Caddy here. The car is supposed to look like a Caddy, everyone is supposed to think that it’s a Caddy. While in fact it is a car made from the scratch, which is why i put a “FLY GARAGE” logo at the rear, instead of “VOLKSWAGEN”. The car currently has more my contribution, that Volkswagen’s. So when the car was cut into pieces, I left only internal bodywork panels, the rear window, front of the car is adapted from a Mk1 Golf Convertible. I added a steel construction underneath the bodywork, it is actually completely hidden. And all of that has been covered with bodywork panels that simply look like a stock VW Caddy. Then I started to design the suspension construction and the engine mounts, because there are no simple solutions. I had noone to ask, I am not a mechanic, but I’m a practitioner. So I rolled up my sleeves and I was trying different solutions. That’s why the car is equipped with parts from: Mercedes, Opel, Ford, Audi, Fiat… I got the front brake calipers for a very good price. They are from a Maserati Quattroporte. Ferrari 360 has the very same calipers. And I got them for 150 zlotys (~35 EUR). Including the brake pads. Why the V8? My inspirations come mainly from the United States. Personally my idol is Chip Foose. He was designing cars, he was drawing them. First he created the car design and then he built it. A car that looked original, but it was better than it. Similarly it goes with the inspiration for the engine. Because V8 is a ‘god’ in the USA. Everyone loves V8s, V8 sounds incredibly well… I found a V8 engine for the price of a well restored 1.6 Diesel. So without hesitation I took a bus and I brought the engine home with me. And then I started to think how to build a frame that would carry the engine. How to cope with the power transmission, I had to think and work out the solution for everything. The engine is in the same position as it would’ve been under the bonnet. But of course now it’s a mid-engined car. Every single engine mount, brackets, the frame… I did it all from the scratch by myself. Rims on the car are 3-piece, magnesium, equipped with a central screw. They come from a car that started in LeMans race in the 1980’s. I tend to do everything differently than everyone. So when wheel arch extensions were ‘in fashion’, everyone would equip their car with flares or bodykits, only so that the rims could fit… I wanted to do everything so that the wheels could “fit” inside the original bodywork. So the whole suspension got modified only to fit the wheels. For me the coolest and the most important element of the car is the intake manifold, which has been painted by my daughter. She was 2,5 year old, I gave her paint and said: You can do what you want. I want it colorful. Now it is all painted, I only covered it with a transpartent layer. I think it perfectly fits the car, being slightly ‘different’. The car has plenty inspirations from different car models. The exhaust is inspired by Pagani Zonda, or the air intake inspired by Lamborghini Murcielago. I had the plan for the interior colour from the beginning. It was supposed to be as similar to the car paint as possible. However, I did it all in a reverse order. I knew which colour I wanted. I ordered interior material in this colour. And having a piece of that material I went to the paint shop, so that they could perfectly match the paint with it. The interior is fully green. It was supposed to be as clean as possible. The floor has been painted smoothly, a lot of switches have been removed, I also wanted to add wooden, classic accents, such as Nardi Torino steering wheel, it’s from mahogany. I did a hydraulic handbrake handle – also from mahogany. And the whole dasboard has been fitted with mahogany, everything has been handcrafted by me. Because of the fact that the engine has a new construction, most of its’ parameters can be read digitally. I decided to install a screen to smoothen the dasboard even more. I’ve also mounted electric windows, only to smoothen inside of the doors. While I was building the car, I didn’t reveal anything to the world. I wanted to do it all by myself. I thought that the car would be more controvertial. I’ve merged different features, styles, car brands, but despite that people really do like the car. Now I’m having a great time driving the car on the roads and watching people reactions to it. Cars are my whole life. Work, hobby, free time, relax and duties. I’m happy that I fulfilled my dream by creating this car. I still cannot believe how much I achieved. When I was building this car, I was doing it my way and just for me. I remember posting first 3 pictures on the internet and the facebook post reached over a million people. I still don’t understand what makes my car so special, especially among sick project cars, sports cars or luxury ones, why do people stop and stare at my green Caddy? I wanted to make a clean interior Ummm… (Daewoo) Matiz incoming. Red ones are the quickest!

Bardzo chciałeś i go stworzyłeś. Bardzo ładny dopieszczony samochodzik super gratuluję i cieszy oko takie cudo 👍

  9. Takie coś, ale do upalania.
    Kawałek zabudowy na koła, narzędzia.
Zrobić by dobrze się prowadził i był bezawaryjny. Taka sztuka użytkowa.

  12. Szanuję za ogrom czasu, pracy i oryginalność projektu. Tylko się tak zastanawiam… Czy każdy właściciel wieśwagena musi mieć negatyw, naciąg i glebę? Przecież to pasuje tu jak świni siodło.

  15. Mistrz! Chciałbym zobaczyć ten samochód na żywca bo caddy to jedyny samochód zaraz po trabancie ktory powoduje u mnie taka ekscytacje 😁 wpadaj do katowic 😋
